SACP mourns the passing away of Comrade Joyce Kgoali

23 November, 04

The South African Communist Party (SACP) is saddened by the passing away of Comrade Joyce Kgoali, the Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP). The passing away of this humble yet firm leader of our movement has shocked all the structures of our movement. This is because Comrade Kgoali passes away when our country is facing a number of challenges politically, economically and otherwise.

Comrade Kgoali was a National Executive Committee member of the ANC Women's League (NEC) and a member of the Provincial Executive Committee of the ANC in Gauteng. She began her political life as a trade unionist in the textile industry and an activist of the United Democratic Front in the 1980's. As an ANC cadre Comrade Joyce was actively involved in the underground structures of our liberation movement.

We shall always remember Comrade Joyce for her commitment and dedication to the liberation of our people, her firm leadership and principled stand on a number of issues. The Communist Party, its leadership and membership lowers its flag mourning this leader of our movement. Hers is a shining example of the contribution made by workers and trade unionists in the liberation and reconstruction of our country. She was a combatant for creating work and fighting poverty.
