Blade Nzimande to address NEDLAC Conference of Provident and Pension Funds Trustees

Today at 09h30, the Chairperson of the Financial Sector Campaign Coalition, Blade Nzimande, will address NEDLAC Conference of Provident and Pension Funds Trustees which takes place on 29 and 30 October at the Sandton Convention Centre. Finance Minister Trevor Manuel will be opening the conference at 9 am on Friday, 29 October. Nzimande will address the Conference on behalf of the NEDLAC Community Constituency.

At the Presidential Growth and Development Summit held on 7 June 2003, NEDLAC constituencies - government, organised business, and organised labour and community groups - signed a set of far-reaching agreements aimed at achieving common developmental goals.

The GDS arose from a call by the President for the NEDLAC constituencies to develop strategies to address the central challenges facing South Africa.

After intensive engagement, agreements were reached on:

• More jobs, better jobs, decent work for all
• Addressing the investment challenge
• Advancing equity, developing skills, creating economic opportunities for all and extending services
• Local action and implementation.

On the area of "Addressing the Investment Challenge", NEDLAC social partners agreed to;

• support the extension of retirement funds to all workers,
• consider the development of national sectoral funds.
• NEDLAC will convene a national trustees' conference to consider the challenges they face.
