Back to Entabeni: Accelerating Land and Agrarian Transformation in South Africa
Tomorrow, the General Secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP), Blade Nzimande will deliver the main address of the Inaugural Joe Slovo Memorial Lecture hosted by the University of Fort Hare in Alice, Eastern Cape.
The lecture will start at 10h00 on Friday, 1 October at the University's Science Auditorium. The lecture is part of the University's Inaugural Colloquium on Africa Intellectual Project with the theme of "The Land and the Agrarian Question in Africa in the 21st Century". The Colloquim will also have academic papers from progressive intellectuals from Botswana, Namibia, Cape Verde, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Nzimande's address will focus on the need to accelerate land and agrarian reform in South Africa given the Party's Red October campaign for 2004 with the theme of "Mawubuye umhlaba: Land, Food, Jobs!" The month-long programme of action will involve ongoing networking with a range of progressive forces, consultation and popular mobilisation. Party branches will be conducting household surveys in targeted rural and farming areas, hold tribunals, forums and mass meetings, culminating into a National Day of Action for Land, Food and Jobs.

The lecture will be followed by a mass rally with farm workers in the Hogsback and Alice areas starting at 2pm.
