The South African Communist Party (SACP) sends its congratulations to our comrades in the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, the Left Front and broader progressive forces in India for their impressive achievement in the Indian general elections and for their contribution in mobilising the Indian population to vote out the right-wing BJP party.
This reversal of the BJP party is a clear rejection by the Indian working class and poor of poverty, neo-liberalism and capitalist policies of the BJP. The achievement was clearly built on the energies and aspirations of the Indian working class and poor. We also salute the election platforms of the left forces which was based on pro-poor and pro-worker policies.
This achievement is an inspiration to poor and working people across the world and demonstrates that with concerted mobilisation and action capitalism can be challenged and eventually defeated.
