The South African Communist Party (SACP) together with its alliance partners, Jubilee 2000 and Eastern Cape Council of Churches will hold a march in East London in solidarity with the people of Palestine who continue to suffer as a result of state terrorism being committed by the government of Israel.
The march will be held during the Workers Day (01 May 2004) from Zone 10 in Mdantsane Township to the Sisa Dukashe Stadium at the Mdantsane CBD where a memorandum will be handed to a representative of the Department of Justice. On the way to the stadium speakers will address the marchers and puppets of Bush, Blair and Sharon will be burnt with flags from the respective countries.
The march will end with a May Day Rally at the stadium to be addressed by the General Secretary of NUMSA Silumko Nondwangu on behalf of Cosatu and by the SACP's Ncumisa Kondlo (member of the Political Bureau and ANC MP).
The rally will also include the finals of the Chris Hani Soccer Tournament which is a joint project between the SACP in the Amatole District and the Mdanstane Soccer Association (MDASA). The rally will also be used to celebrate the ANC's electoral victory.
