Illegal sales of SACP Material

20 January 2004

It has come to the attention of the South African Communist Party (SACP) that several people and companies are selling merchandise such as caps and t-shirts with the Party logo and other Party symbols and slogans.

These people are doing this although they have no permission from the Party to do this. The Party believes that these people are deliberately creating the impression that they are marketing the merchandise on behalf of the Party. This is not the case and their actions are illegal and immoral. The Party is currently investigating this matter and taking action against these people and companies.

The Party and its official representatives have the exclusive right to produce and sell merchandise containing Party symbols. This we do through Inkululeko Media and Marketing (IMM), which is the only group with the authority to sell Party merchandise.

We urge all progressive organisations, especially members of the alliance to:

The authenticity of any person to sell Party material can be verified with Lauren Richer (Managing Director of IMM) on inkuleleko@sacp.org.za, richer@iafrica.com, 082 873 6430 and at the Party Head Office telephone and fax numbers or Mazibuko Jara on mazibuko@sacp.org.zaand 083 651 0271.

Please forward this letter to your provincial and regional offices and all of your structures.

Yours sincerely

Blade Nzimande and Phillip Dexter
