The 10th anniversary of the death of Comrade Chris Hani

10 April 2003

The Media Review Network marks the 10th anniversary of the death of SACP General Secretary and ANC leader, Chris Hani, with great sadness.

Martin Thembisile “Chris” Hani was instrumental in the transformation of South Africa’s government. From his youth, Martin “Chris” Hani was fearlessly dedicated to the struggle for freedom. He was strong in his service as a freedom fighter and bore 30 years of exile selflessly for the liberation of South Africa – for justice.

We still mourn his untimely passing, having being brutally cut down in his prime, and we note how, even in his death, this great leader is a source of inspiration for all who believe in freedom. It is difficult to imagine just what an impact Chris Hani would have made, if he were still with us.

The Media Review Network salutes this hero, who gave his life for our liberation. On this day, our thoughts are with his family and with his comrades who lived and fought by his side and who must miss him dearly, as does the nation, which he loved.
