SACP Congratulates Workers Party for Its Victory in Brazilian Elections

27 October 2002

The South African Communist Party (SACP) congratulates Comrade Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (President of the Workers’ Party of Brazil - Partido de los Trabajadores) for his impressive victory in the Brazilian Presidential election held yesterday.

The SACP also salutes the Workers' Party, the Communist Party of Brazil and other left parties which worked for Lula's victory under the Lula for President Coalition.

The SACP believes that Lula's victory is a decisive message from the poor and working people of Brazil that it is pro-poor and pro-working class policies and programmes which are best guaranteed to ensure a better life for all.

The SACP trusts that Lula's government will resist IMF/neo-liberal pressures and conditionalities against such people-based policies.
