SACP to Launch Umsebenzi Online

14 October 2002

The South African Communist Party (SACP) invites the media and the public to a function to launch Umsebenzi Online as detailed below.

DATE : Wednesday, 16 October 2002
TIME : 13h30 - 15h00
VENUE : SACP Head Office, 3rd Floor, COSATU House, 1 Leyds Street, corner Biccard, Braamfontein, Johannesburg

The SACP General Secretary will deliver the keynote address which will focus on the SACP's analysis of the political situation inside and outside the ANC-SACP-COSATU alliance following the COSATU-led anti-privatisation action. This focus will summarise the main article for the first edition of Umsebenzi Online which will be available from the SACP Website on 16 October. With this publication, the SACP will contribute to the discussion and space for debate which has been created by the ANC Today and COSATU Weekly.

"Umsebenzi Online is aimed at SACP activists who are in government, parliament, trade unions and civil society formations. Many of them have been asking the Party to provide direction on key issues of the day and space for debate. We have also received similar enquiries from international allies and observers", said Blade Nzimande.

"We will also use Umsebenzi Online to communicate with the media and the public on our positions and analysis of the fluid political and economic situation in our country", continued Nzimande. Umsebenzi Online will be published on the first and third Wednesday of every month. Umsebenzi Online will include "The Red Pen" column focusing on articles from the SACP General Secretary and statements from the SACP Political Bureau.

"Umsebenzi Online will provide an internal SACP forum to raise and debate issues facing us in our daily work in parliament", said ANC MP and member of the SACP Politburo, Yunus Carrim.

The launch issue's focus on the post-strike situation will provide SACP responses to many of the accusations which have flown between the alliance partners and the media analysis which has followed.

Umsebenzi Online will not replace the print copy of the monthly newsletter of the SACP, Umsebenzi.
