The 11th Congress of the South African Communist Party (SACP) has just unanimously elected the following office-bearers:
1. General Secretary - Blade Nzimande
2. National Chairperson - Charles Nqakula
3. Deputy General Secretary - Jeremy Cronin
4. Deputy National Chairperson - Dipuo Mvelase (profile will follow in a
separate statement)
Following their election, Comrade Charles Nqakula addressed the Congress to thank delegates for the confidence they have shown in them. The Congress marked the fact that Comrade Dipuo Mvelase is the first African woman to be elected as an SACP Office-Bearer in its 81 year history.
The 11th Congress of the SACP will now go into an election process to elect the SACP's National Treasurer. The candidates for this position are:
The elections will be conducted from 15h00 to 18h00 today and the results will be announced as soon as counting is concluded.
