Greater Port Elizabeth SACP District Holds Congress Blade Nzimande to Speak in Port Elizabeth

This weekend, the Mbuyiselo Ngwenda District of the South African Communist Party (SACP) will hold its first District Congress since it was launched in October 1999. The SACP General Secretary, Blade Nzimande, will address this District Congress as detailed below.

The Congress will start at 11h00 tomorrow. The Mbuyiselo Ngwenda District represents more than 2000 paid up and active members of the SACP in areas which include the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan City, Albany, the Karoo, Tsitsikamma and Humansdorp. The Nelson Mandela Metropole includes all the areas which fall under Uitenhage, Port Elizabeth, Walmer and Despatch. The District is named after the late Comrade Mbuyiselo Ngwenda who was a member of the SACP Politburo and the General Secretary of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA).

The Congress will be held under the theme of Build a People's Economy for People's Power: Build Socialism Now. The Congress Agenda includes the following items:

Since the District was launched in 1999, it has been part of important struggles including the 2000 local elections and last year's strike at the Volkswagen plant which saw the emergence of OCGAWU. This historic congress will take forward the struggle for socialism in our region said Mandla Makhuphula, the SACP Eastern Cape Provincial Secretary.

The Congress will be concluded with a press briefing at 17h00 on Saturday, 10 November 2001 at the same venue detailed above.
