SACP SG Blade Nzimande to Address the 8th National Congress of SACTWU at International Convention centre, DBN

08 August 2001

The General Secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP), Blade Nzimande, will address the 8th National Congress of the Southern African Clothing and Textile Worker's Union (SACTWU) as detailed below.

DATE : Friday, 11 August 2001
TIME : 10h00 - 11h00
VENUE : International Convention Centre, Durban

The Congress is held at a time when the clothing, textile and footwear industry is undergoing deep structural changes resulting in many job losses and factory closures. The Congress is also held at a time when the South African working class is mobilising to challenge terms of economic restructuring which have sustained unemployment and poverty and led to a job-loss bloodbath and worsening exploitation of employed workers through casualisation, outsourcing and privatisation.

It is in this context that the SACP address to the SACWTU Congress will focus on the political and economic challenges facing the South African working class and the SACP position on, and contribution to current working class struggles.
