Pela Village is the birthplace of the late Moses Kotane who served as the SACP General Secretary from 1939 until his death in 1978. Kotane also served as the Treasurer General of the ANC. He lies buried in Moscow. He joined the SACP in the late 1920s after a number of years working as a labourer in Johannesburg. He got most of his ormal education in night schools organised by the SACP in the 1930s. He played a key role in rebuilding and consolidating the SACP from the mid-1930s onwards. In many ways he personified the ANC-SACP-COSATU alliance as we know it today. He made an immense contribution to the democratic South Africa we have today.
This 80th Anniversary celebration at his birthplace is fitting to this South African revolutionary.
