This coming weekend marks the launch of the Chris Hani Memorial Week by the South African Communist Party (SACP) together with the African National Congress and the Congress of South African Trade Unions.
The main event will be the Chris Hani Memorial National Rally to be held in the Mpumalanga Province town of Ermelo as detailed below.

In addition to this event, the SACP will also host up to 20 events throughout the country for the week up to 12 April 2001. These events are detailed below.
This year's commemoration is marked by the ongoing SACP-led campaign to transform and diversify the financial sector of our country. The challenges of chronic structural unemployment, poverty and inequality require sustained mobilisation of domestic resources for a (state-led economic transformation programme) including those hoarded by banks and the rest of the financial sector in our country.
To commemorate Hani's life and continue the struggle he led, the SACP says:
