The South African Communist Party (SACP) mourns the passing away of Phillip Sphambano Nzimande, the 85-year old father of our General Secretary, Blade Nzimande.
Dr. Phillip's, as he was popularly known in the KwaDambuza township (Pietermaritzburg), passed away earlier this morning from diabetic complications after being discharged from a local hospital yesterday afternoon.
As part of the exploited black working class,Dr. Phillip's found himself in the midst of struggles against forced removals, evictions and community life in KwaDambuza. We salute his role and contribution to these struggles and community survival as a traditional healer.
The SACP sends its condolences and support to Comrade Blade Nzimande and the entire Nzimande family.
