The South African Communist Party (SACP) salutes South African workers for raising more than R62 million for job creation and development. Today, the Job Creation Trust Fund asked the Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA) to disburse these funds for pove rty eradication and job creation. This money comes from voluntary contributions and mobilisation of ordinary South African workers, most of whom earn poverty wages and are super-exploited by the bosses.
This historically unprecedented initiative is an illustration that, as it has always been, South African workers are not selfish and are willing to sacrifice in the interests of the poor and the broader advancement of the struggle of a better for all.
It actually puts to shame detractors of the working class who argue that South African workers are a selfish elite acting in their narrow interests at the expense of the unemployed. Those who actually continue to act in their narrow interests are the bosse s who refuse to invest in job creation and continue to retrench workers.
The SACP challenges South African employers, who own all our wealth, to better this contribution by investing in job creation.
Further, we call on our people to mobilise themselves in their numbers to utilise these funds in their best interests. But this must also be linked to continuing mass mobilisation and struggles to challenge the power of the bosses and capitalism itself. An d thus our call on all South Africans to join the SACP led 21 October marches and pickets for the transformation of financial institutions (banks) and for the building of co-operatives. It is this kind of mobilisation which will fundamentally transform Sou th Africa in the interests of the working class and the poor and the eventual transition to socialism.
