The South African Communist Party (SACP) salutes the memory and contribution of Comrade Steve Biko to the struggle for national liberation. Steve Biko's memory and legacy belong to all South Africans and oppressed people throughout the world.
23 years ago yesterday, Steve Biko, a celebrated hero of the struggle for national liberation, was brutally murdered by apartheid police whilst in custody. The apartheid regime ensured that there was no investigation, a court trial and conviction of the ki llers.
To this day there is no full disclosure about the murder of Comrade Biko. Those who testified to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission still did not provide any substantial answers about his murder. The SACP supports the continuing search for full inform ation about Biko's murder and other apartheid murders of our political leaders.
Today, as we celebrate Biko's memory the SACP calls on all South Africans to struggle against racism, poverty, neo-liberalism and capitalism. This means a struggle for nation building, non-racism, non-sexism, fundamental economic transformation and the win ning of socialism in our country.
