The South African Communist Party (SACP) welcomes President of the Peoples Republic of China, Comrade Jiang Zemin for his current state visit to South Africa.
This is a visit that millions of South Africans endorse and have been looking forward to for many years. The Peoples Republic of China, led by the Chinese Communist Party, symbolises for many South Africans, Africans and peoples of the Third World the spirit of resistance to a world disorder dominated by a powerful few. It is a spirit rooted in a passionate humanism that is prepared to defy the cynicism of world politics and global markets.
The SACP commits itself to fostering the deep ties of solidarity and friendship between China, South African people and the African continent as a whole.
Reactionary and right wing forces in our country campaign against normal trade and political relations with China. Why single out China? Like most Third World countries, China hopes industrialization and mass production industries will help raise the standard of living for its people. To these forces we say, isolation of China will not help. With the global capitalist system in deepening crisis and turmoil, there are many lessons to be drawn from the Chinese example.
