Civil Engineering National Strike

The SACP in Western Cape has learnt with concern of the CIVIL ENGINEERING NATIONAL STRIKE that is currently taking place nationally. We believe that this could have been avoided if he bosses had put the interests of this industry and the workers in particular first.

The demands that are being put to the civil and building sectors are reasonable, in that they are looking at bringing about equity in earning between the civil and building sectors and a living wage to all workers.

We therefore call on SAFSEC to put the interests of the workers before profits by:

The workers in the engineering and building industry have in the past experienced vicious treatment in the form of job losses, job insecurity, exploitation, low wage payments, etc.

The decisions and agreements of the Job Summit have to be implemented without delay.
