Solly Mapaila says SACP still need to consult with alliance partners, particularly Cosatu, the ANC and Sanco.(SABC)
The South African Communist Party (SACP) says it has taken the decision to campaign for a reconfigured tripartite alliance with the ANC,Sanco and Cosatu to regain public confidence
The party's general-secretary Blade Nzimande told the 14th SACP national congress in Boksburg on the East Rand on Saturday that the ANC had previously side-lined the SACP.
He has accused the governing party of finding the SACP useful during election campaigns.
Speaking on Weekend Live, SACP first deputy general-secretary Solly Mapaila says they still need to make consultations with alliance partners, particularly Cosatu, the ANC and Sanco.
"We need to engage in other social forces to discuss with them this decision and how to roll it forward so that we are able to revitalise our national democratic revolution. We need to reconnect it with the people and get back the confidence that has been lost amongst our people, particularly in key metros where we suffered mega setbacks in the past local government elections."
Meanwhile, Mapaila says the SACP needs to address issues of state capture and the looting of public funds.
"It has to do with a link to inefficiencies in government, the stealing of public resources by a few individuals in the administration linked with politicians and some business people including the Guptas in this case. There is a threat to our democracy and Constitution. We have been raising concerns within the alliance. This has not been addressed and they made it now a programme of their own that they can role it working with other people."
