PRETORIA - Members of the South African Communist Party (SACP) are picketing outside the Treasury in Pretoria, calling for an end to the capture of the financial sector.
The picket is one of several demonstrations at Treasury since President Jacob Zuma fired Pravin Gordhan and replaced him with Minister Malusi Gigaba.
The party cancelled its own mass protest last week after it failed to obtain authorisation from the Tshwane metro police.
The SACP's Jacob Mamabolo says the party is deeply concerned about the direction the country is taking.
"Our country is being turned into a playground for corruption and looting. Our national sovereignty is being undermined, particularly by the Gupta dynasty which is at the core of manipulating our financial institutions, state organs and SOEs."
Mamabolo dismissed claims of radical economical transformation, stating it was not possible when the country had been declared junk.
"You can't do radical economic transformation of a junk economy," he said.
