JOHANNESBURG – An anti-censorship picket is underway outside theSouth African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) offices in Auckland Park, despite SABC management refusing to meet with protesting organisations.
The picket is being led by the Save Our SABC (SOS) Coalition, together with the Gauteng South African Communist Party (SACP).

The organisations are calling for the reversal of an editorial decision by the public broadcaster not to air images of public property being torched during protests.
The SACP, the SOS Coalition, Media Monitoring Africa and other organisations say they will continue their picket despite SABC representatives refusing to receive their memorandum of demands.
Gauteng SACP secretary Jacob Mamabolo says even if the SABC doesn't cooperate, today's picket won't be the last.
"We will proceed with it as it is, and we continue the fight. Phanzi (down) with reactionary management, phanzi!"

The organisations are demanding the immediate reinstatement of suspended public broadcaster employees, the reversal of editorial policy changes and the removal of Chief Operations Officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng.
Although the broadcaster not receiving the memorandum, it's been given until Friday to reinstate suspended journalists.
