The SACP's second deputy general secretary, Solly Mapaila, yesterday again warned Hawks boss Lieutenant-General Berning Ntlemeza not to "harass and abuse communists".
This was after Ntlemeza was allegedly overheard a few weeks ago saying "communists must be harassed".
Police Minister Nathi Nhleko later entered the fray and warned the SACP against "politicising" the work of the SA Police Service and of the Hawks.
But Mapaila charged yesterday: "We did not attack the police, we mentioned Ntlemeza . He's an individual, not a police force. He's not even the Hawks.
