JOHANNESBURG - The South African Communist Party (SACP), in a press statement on 17 March, said it had reliable information from several sources that another “Gupta-inspired cabinet shuffle” was imminent.

The SACP said Minister of Trade and Industry, Rob Davies, would be replaced " with a recently-sworn-in ANC MP and business person." It said the reshuffle  was "connected to the Gupta family interests in acquiring a stake in Arcelor Mittal", and their concern that Davies was creating a tough environment for the steel industry.

The SACP called "for a broad spectrum investigation into the phenomenon of corporate state capture and a judicial commission of enquiry to reveal the nature, character and extent of the problem, and to contribute on the way forward to deal decisively with the problem."

The party said it would be discussing "growing evidence of the manipulation of political appointments by the Gupta family" with the ANC and the alliance as a whole.

It said failure to deal with these issues would threaten the capacity of the State and South Africa as a whole.
