Solly Mapaila says Slovo was a deep intellectual of the movement who led in the forefront of the struggle.(SABC)
Deputy General Secretary of the SACP Solly Mapaila says Joe Slovo`s ideas still exist in our democratic society.
Mapaila described Slovo a selfless individual who fought to see South Africa where it is today.
He says Slovo was a deep intellectual of the movement who led in the forefront of the struggle. "Slovo committed himself in the liberation of the people and the struggle of the country as a high commander."
He says Slovo had an outstanding character to lead in the SACP and movement.
Today marks 21 years since the death of anti-apartheid activist and SACP stalwart, Joe Slovo.
Slovo was a steadfast member of the South Africa Communist Party from, the early 1940s.
He was involved in the founding of the joint ANC-SACP liberation army, uMkhonto weSizwe and was also accused in the 1956 Treason Trial.
He lived most of life in service to the struggle against apartheid.
