Cosatu President Sdumo Dlamini says the federation has moved from the fighting phase and is now building the organisation.

Dlamani took a moment to reflect on the federation`s current situation while speaking at the commemoration of the 22nd anniversary of the Chris Hani`s death in Boksburg‚ Ekurhuleni on Friday.

He further alluded to the fact that Cosatu is not dependent on a single individual.

"Unity is about the organisation and not an individual," Dlamini said. "We have expelled Vavi."

SACP General Secretary Blade Nzimande said although they agree with Cosatu that Vavi`s expulsion was a hard decision, the communist party cannot be accused of dividing the federation. Nzimande also echoed the Young Communist League`s call for an inquest into Hani`s assassination.

Meanwhile, student congress COSAS said like many South Africans, they cannot help but be stuck on what could have and would have happened, had Hani been alive today and the role he would have played in pushing the transformation agenda.

"Today we from time to time refer to him as a person to look up to when we make an example of the kind of revolutionaries needed in order for the transformation agenda to be carried out," COSAS said in a statement.
