The SA Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) says it rejects the decision made by South African Airways (SAA) to start retrenching workers.
SAA is to embark on a major cost cutting exercise that will result in more than a thousand workers losing their jobs.
Khaya Ngqula, the SAA CEO, says the company has shown increased passenger volumes on a monthly basis, and will be introducing several new flights to South America, Africa and Europe. However, Ngqula says SAA is unable to show significant profit margins.
