PRETORIA - More arrests are imminent after a 25-year-old woman was convicted for fraudulently claiming from the Road Accident Fund (RAF), the national police office said on Wednesday.
Medical doctors who allegedly supplied Tanya Senekal with certificates and reports used to "verify" her claims are also under investigation, said Director Phuti Setati.
Senekal was sentenced to 10 years in prison or a fine of R120 000 in the Germiston Regional Court on November 17.
The court heard that she submitted false claims amounting to R200 000 to the RAF.
She was also linked to other fraud syndicates that "created a number of fictitious taxi accidents and lodged false claims amounting to (around) R50 million".
A task team comprised of the commercial branch of the police, the National Prosecuting Authority and forensic investigators attached to the RAF will make more arrests soon, Setati said. - Sapa
