The South African National Editors' Forum has condemned the manner in which a journalist is being pressured to testify in a defamation action on which he reported.
Sanef said yesterday it supported Daily Voice news editor Gasant Abarder because "it will compromise him as a journalist and jeopardise his relationship of trust with his sources of information".
Sanef added that the action against Abarder contravened a memorandum of understanding signed by the Ministry of Justice in 1998.
Sanef also said it was disturbed that the court had rejected the reasons Abarder had advanced as an excuse for refusing to testify. - Staff Reporter
