Joint Communiqué between the South Africa Communist Party and Polisario Front

At the invitation of POLISARIO FRONT, a delegation of the South Africa Communist Party (SACP) visited the Saharawi refugees (Algeria) and the liberated areas of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) from 24 to 28 April 2007.
Led by comrade Dr: Blade NZIMANDE, General Secretary of the SACP, the delegation held discussions with a POLISARIO FRONT senior delegation led by comrade Khatry Addouh, member of the National Secretariat, responsible of the political organization, with other members of the POLISARIO FRONT leadership and of the Government of the SADR. During their stay amongst the Saharawi people, the SACP delegation visited various Saharawi institution and was received by and held talks with H.E MOHAMED ABDELAZIZ, Secretary General of the POLISARIO FRONT and President of SADR.
In view of the content of the talks that revolved around the bilateral relations, the situation of the two peoples and the situation in Africa and in the world at large, the two organizations declare the following:
- They recall the historic ties of friendship and solidarity between the South African and Saharawi peoples and between the two organizations in their common struggle for freedom and against colonialism in the northern part of Africa and apartheid in the southern region of our continent.
- The POLISARIO FRONT highly appreciated the leading historic role played by the SACP in courageous and victorious struggle of people of South Africa for freedom, justice, and progress and hails its valuable contribution to he building of the new Democratic South Africa.
- The SACP reiterates its solidarity with the historic struggle for the right to self-determination and independence of the Saharawi people under leadership of the POLISARIO FRONT.
- They welcome establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of South Africa and the SADR and call for their strengthening in all fields for the benefits of the two peoples.
- They applaud the leading role played by the Republic of South Africa in support of the Saharawi cause in the international arena particularly in the Security Council of the UNO.
- They strongly condemn the intransigent attitude of Morocco regime and its continuous denial not only of the legitimate right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence, but also of all its commitments to a just and lasting solution to the conflict of Western Sahara
- They firmly condemn the so-called Moroccan plan of “Autonomy” for Western Sahara, and firmly reject this new maneuver of the Moroccan regime aiming at deviating the conflict of Western Sahara from its legitimate and legal path of decolonization question and the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.
- They express also their concern about the attitude of the Government of: France. Spain, and the USA, who wrongly declared their support to the Moroccan plan.
- They reiterate that the conflict of Western Sahara remains a question of decolonization and a matter related to the right Saharawi people to self-determination and independence, and call on the Kingdom of Morocco to withdraw all its occupying forces from the Saharawi territory and respect the sovereignty of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic with its internationally recognized borders.
- They express their concern about the continuous violations of the Human Rights by the Moroccan occupying forces in the occupied territories of the SADR. They condemn the repressive practices deployed by the Moroccan regime on the defenseless Saharawi population in the Saharawi occupied zones and call the UN to intervene urgently to protect the Saharawi civilians and safeguard their fundamental Human Rights. And to ensure freedom of speech, association and access to occupied territories by independent foreign observers and visitors.
- They call on all justice and peace loving countries to recognize the SADR and on all the freedom bodies and organization to widen and strengthen solidarity with the SADR and the heroic Saharawi people. They express their deepest gratitude for the support and solidarity that all forces of freedom and justice,in particular, Algeria has been giving to the struggle Saharawi people for self-determination and independence.
- They reaffirm their solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people for exercising their legitimate rights to establish their independent state and with the Iraqi people for dignity, freedom and sovereignty. They also stress that peace and security in the middle-East and the world will not be achieved without the scrupulous respect for the people’s rights to justice, dignity and progress and for the international legality, the rule of law and rigorous implantation of U.N. resolutions.
- They reaffirm their attachment to the great principles and values of the African Liberation Movement consisting of the respect of peoples rights to self-determination and independence and for their sovereignty within their borders inherited from colonization, and specially their right to pursuing the African Unity and integration in peace and prosperity, they also reaffirm their attachment to the principles and ideals enshrined in the Constitutive Act of the African Union and I the NEPAD Plan of Action.
- They committed themselves to strengthen solidarity and cooperation relation, including by exchange of delegation and engage our respective governments to deepen bilateral cooperation between the two countries through concrete programmes. They also committed themselves to further explore and identify concrete areas of bilateral ties.
- The SACP will engage its alliance and other progressive formations to implement a concrete programme of partners with the Saharawi people in South Africa and in the world.
- The POLISARIO FRONT expresses its most sincere gratitude for the constant solidarity of the SACP with the just cause of the Saharawi people and for this visit of Dr. Blade Nzimande, General Secretary of SACP and the delegation accompanying him.
