SACP Post-Central Committee Meeting Press Briefing

2 June 2018

The SACP will hold a post-meeting 14th Congress Central Committee Fourth Plenary Session press briefing to communicate key outcomes, and invites the media to cover the event as follows.

Date: Tomorrow, Sunday 3 June 2018
Venue: Protea Parktonian Hotel, 120 De Korte St, Braamfontein, Johannesburg, 2001
Time: 12h45

The meeting has entered the second of its three-day sitting in Johannesburg this morning, Saturday 2 June 2018.

The Central Committee is presently discussing the Secretariat Political Report. The report analyses the state of our State and government performance, the political situation in South Africa, including the Land Question, energy policy and the role of the Communist Party. This includes the building of a popular left front in line with the July 2017 SACP 14th Congress resolution on the Party and state and popular power, and therefore on elections. Related to this, the Central Committee will receive a presentation of a discussion document dedicated to the pursuit of a reconfiguration of the Alliance.

The building of a popular left front, as the 14th SACP Congress resolved, is necessary for the Party to avoid placing all working class expectations in the single outcome of a reconfigured Alliance. The forging of a popular left front must, together with the pursuit of a reconfigured Alliance, must therefore be deepened. The papers presented to the Central Committee propose practical measures to take forward the entire road map, including engagements with our Alliance partners, worker and other progressive formations.

The Central Committee will, accordingly, be hosting Cde Cyril Ramaphosa, the ANC President, and Cosatu Secretariat. Both will make presentations for engagement. The Central Committee will thereafter host Dr Aaron Motsoaledi and focus on the challenges facing our public healthcare system.

The meeting will end tomorrow with the press briefing on its key outcomes.
