SACP condemns killings of political leaders in KZN Province
14 May 2018
The SACP strongly condemns the killing of political leaders in the province of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). If this is not immediately stopped, then we may see the criminalisation of our politics and descent into something akin to a mafia state.
On Friday, Musawenkosi Mchunu, former ANC councillor was shot and killed outside of his home in Pietermaritzburg. The same day Samkelo Dlamini, an IFP councillor was shot dead in Ulundi and Allen Thompson, the National Teachers Union Deputy President was shot in his car in Umhlanga and fortunately survived. The SACP expresses its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, and wishes Thompson a speedy recovery.
As the SACP we are concerned that KZN Province is being turned into a hotbed of politically inspired murders. The police and prosecution authorities must respectively hunt and successfully prosecute the assassins, their handlers and whoever is behind them.
The SACP further calls upon members of the community who may have information to come forward and inform the police of who the murderers are and who is behind them.
