SACP holds the first three-day Augmented Central Committee meeting post-14th Party Congress
28 November 2017
The South African Communist Party will be holding its first Augmented Central Committee meeting from Friday to Sunday, 1-3 December 2017. The Augmented Central Committee meeting is an annual strategic planning session of the SACP attended by delegates representing Party districts from across the country, and additional representatives representing provincial executive and Young Communist League national committees.
The 14th Party Congress held in July resolved that the SACP must actively contest state power through elections. The Congress resolved that this may, or may not be within the umbrella of a reconfigured alliance. This was the first time since 1994 the SACP adopted a resolution to consider contesting elections outside of the umbrella of the alliance if it is not reconfigured to be anchored on the principles of democratic consensus-seeking consultation on all major parliamentary, government policy and related deployment and accountability decisions at all levels. The Congress mandated the forthcoming Augmented Central Committee meeting to adopt a road map to give effect to the resolution, among others the road map should include extensive consultation and considerations for forging a popular left front.
Key outcomes of the meeting will be communicated at a post-meeting press briefing to be held as follows.
Date: Sunday, 3 December 2017
Venue: Protea Hotel OR Tambo Airport, Crn York and Gladiator, Rhodesfield, Kempton Park
The SACP invites the media to cover the press briefing, which will be addressed by Party officials.
The SACP further invites the media to a photo op to be held at the same venue as follows.
Date: Friday, 1 December 2017
The meeting will also be the first major national meeting of the SACP after the Metsimaholo electoral contest where the SACP, in its own name, for the first time after 1994, resolved to field candidates from a broad range of community based organisations including its structures.
