SACP Free State pledge solidarity with Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike
14 May 2017
The South African Communist Party (SACP) in Free State will embark on a solidarity hunger strike to be accompanied by picketing at the Free State Provincial legislature tomorrow. The purpose of the 24 hours hunger strike and picketing is to pledge solidarity with Palestinian prisoners currently on an open-ended hunger strike in Israeli prisons.
Palestinian prisoners launched a mass hunger strike since 17 April for better prison conditions, freedom and dignity. The hunger strike is part of a broader battle against Israel's arbitrary detention of many Palestinians without trial and Palestinian struggle for independence against illegal occupation of Palestinian land by Israel.
The SACP is accordingly inviting the media to cover the event. The SACP is further inviting interested members of the public to join the picketing and pledge solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners. Details are as follows.
