Media Transformation Summit Invitation

29 September 2015

The South African Communist Party (SACP) will be hosting a Media Transformation Summit, in collaboration with other stakeholders including role players in the media industry and will involve the participation of alliance partners.

The summit will focus on developing a programme of action in relation to:

  • Mechanisms to ensure media diversity;
  • Initiatives to achieve de-monopolization of the press and other important media platforms, including anti-monopoly measures;
  • Media accountability and charter
  • Workplace transformation, equity and workers` conditions in the media vis--vis media transformation

The media is invited to cover the summit. Details are as follows.

Date: Friday 2 - Saturday 3 October 2015
Venue: Protea Hotel OR Tambo, Kempton Park, Gauteng Province

Session statuses for media coverage

Time: 9h00 - 15h00, Friday 2 October 2015 - Open Plenary Session

The summit will be an open plenary session for the media, to be addressed among others by SACP General Secretary Cde Blade Nzimande and a number of media practioners and panel discussions on various aspects relating to media transformation.

Time: 15h00, Friday 2 October 2015 - Closed Plenary Session

The summit will then break into closed session commissions until 18h00.

Time: 9h00 - 10h00, Saturday 3 October 2015 - Open Plenary Session

The summit will open with an open session and a panel discussion by trade unions organising in the media industry.

Time: 10h00 - 13h45, Saturday 3 October 2015 - Closed Plenary Session

The summit will receive commission reports from 10h00 to 13h45 in a closed plenary session.

Time: 13h45 - 15h10, Saturday 3 October 2015 - Open Plenary Session

The summit will receive draft declaration, discuss and adopt the final media transformation declaration in an open session that will be closed by SACP General Secretary Cde Blade Nzimande.
