SACP congratulates Pitso Mosimane on his appointment

18 July 2010

The SACP would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Pitso Mosimane on his appointment as Head Coach of the Senior Men Football Team, Bafana Bafana. We call on all South Africans to rally behind the team and the vision put forward by the coach and give him all the necessary support. As the SACP we pledge all our support to the coach.

It is our understanding that the coach presented a well thought plan to SAFA in so far as taking the team to the 2014 World Cup. Whilst we welcome the plan it must however said that the missing piece in the puzzle is SAFA`s plan. SAFA owes this nation a plan to lead football in this country.

At the centre of the plan must be the revival of schools sports, university and college sports and the implementation of the recommendation on junior leagues. No coach will survive for as long as we do not have strong junior programmes to develop football. Serious engagement must be undertaken as well with the Professional League on the focussed professional approach to football and not just the business of football.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup has laid a firm basis for us to build on and take our football forward. The winners of the 2010 World Cup Spain is living proof of what can happen if we invest in sustainable youth development, multiply youth football academies and train youth coaches to embed professional approached at an early age of playing football. It is time for all of us to stand up and hold SAFA accountable on this issues.

We wish the Coach and his new technical team all the best! Let us continue to rally behind Bafana Bafana and all our national teams.

Issued by the SACP.
